I can't really remember what happens before the joke, but Mr. Myers picks up a garden hoe and exclaims, "you dirty hoe!" My kids, Manny in particular, have been repeating this phrase, with gusto. Just yesterday, Christian did something that Manny didn't like, and he called Christian a dirty hoe. ![]() oy vey I told Manny that it wasn't a nice thing to say. He asked me why. I told him it wasn't a very nice name to call someone. He said that he was talking about a garden hoe. I told him that when you're not holding a garden hoe, it means something else....something that's not so nice. He didn't get it. ![]() **sigh** After several minutes of talking in circles and getting nowhere, I defaulted to the aged old, tested and proven to work, "It's not a nice thing to call someone, don't do it again; end of discussion." I really hate saying things like this to him. I want him to understand that it has double meanings and that when not speaking contextually (say, while gardening), one of the meanings is hurtful. However, I think context my be a little too complex for a five year old to understand. Either that, or he's purposefully being obtuse. In which case, he is the smartest fiver year old alive! ![]()
